Products - Development Kits

To evaluate our technology we are offering various development systems based on our software, with hardware, provision of Java™ and hardware schematics. They consist of hardware (based on our Micro WebTarget® Board or StarTarget™ Board), software (4NetOS® or HyNetOS® with applicable extensions) and documentation along with a basic evaluation license of our technology. All kits contain everything you need for a full evaluation of our base technology, and are not limited by time or functionality of our intellectual property.

Micro BlueTarget Kit (processor manufacturer - Hyperstone)
For general purpose embedded networking and embedded Internet developments using C or Java programming language and needing a wireless communication interface (Bluetooth™). This Kit contains two Micro BlueTarget® boards including all software from the Micro WebTarget® Kit plus the HyNetOS® extensions W*Target Blue (Bluetooth™ protocol stack). Basics of the Development System

The target system is always equipped with a 10BaseT/100BaseTX Ethernet interface as this is an integral part of the Micro WebTarget®, Micro BlueTarget® and StarTarget™ board. The Ethernet interface is not only used for TCP/IP network communication initiated from the application software on the target system, but is also used for configuration, tracing, debugging and downloading of the target system's operating software using a PC. Such a PC always needs its own 10BaseT/100BaseTX network adapter card and to be running the TCP/IP protocol to communicate with the target system. As shown in the following diagram several PCs can communicate with several target systems on one and the same Ethernet network.

The supplied Software is our embedded network Operating System 4NetOS® or HyNetOS® for the target platform, including many examples of source code at the application level as well as at the device driver level. These examples can be used as a basic framework for extensions the user of the development systems can make for themselves.

On the PC we offer a set of Windows tools for remote maintenance of the target system like a remote configuration monitor, a debugging interface as well as tools for downloading and updating the target system's operating software. To rebuild the target systems operating software (e.g. after adding a new driver) we offer a full set of C development tools like C-compiler, Assembler, Library Manager and Linker running under Win98/ME/NT/2000/XP. These tools are supplied from our partner Hyperstone and are sublicensed with SND's development system. We do not offer an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with our tools. All tools are strictly command line based, since we do not want to depend on a specific PC operating system. Only the Source Level Debugger exists in a GUI version for Windows systems. Also we can recommend some third party IDEs where our tools can be integrated.

As far as the Java language is concerned, you would typically use the SDK's available for free from Sun Microsystems website. You would typically also use the Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) to run and rebuild the examples on the PC and the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) to rebuild application examples intended to run on the target system's Virtual Machine (needs J*Target CLDC Extension for 4NetOS®/HyNetOS®).

The Kit Documentation is supplied as PDF and HTML documents on CD-ROM. You will find the complete documentation from Hyperstone or STMicroelectronics as well as SND documentation on networking issues and operation of SND's Micro WebTarget® or Micro BlueTarget® or StarTarget™, Also included are hardware schematics (Professional version only), 4NetOS® or HyNetOS® manuals, API descriptions and a device driver development guide. You will even find datasheets of the main hardware components used as well as many weblinks pointing to other sites with related topics.
