Embedded Networking and the Internet

Networks are almost everywhere. There is virtually no market segment which has not gone through a radical change and utilising global network communication. This trend not only affects the Internet itself (also know as a WAN (Wide Area Network)) with hundreds of millions of PC’s, but also smaller devices which are locally connected in a LAN (Local Area Network) or even in a PAN (Personal Area Network). The network may consist of cables (e.g. Ethernet), radio waves (e.g. Bluetooth) or light (e.g. infrared transmission) or any combination of these. Even distance does not matter as protocols do not care whether they transport data over 10 cms (4”) or over 10000 kms (6000 miles).

All devices follow common protocol standards, such as IP, UDP, TCP, HTTP, FTP, PPP, SMTP, DHCP and SNMP to name just a few. All these work independently from the connection type, the size and/or the class of device. Connecting to the Internet or to virtually any remote station is no longer the privilege of well-equipped workstations or PCs, but any device can do it with just a few kilobytes of code and a modem, and – in fact – these devices are replacing the PC more and more.

SND’s network operating software HyNetOS® lets you easily integrate all this and much more into your products. Based on the most common communication and network protocols you can build application software to act in a PAN, LAN or WAN. It will take you only a few minutes to write your first code and to see your first TCP connection established as interfaces in HyNetOS have been kept very simple and straight forward, thus very easy to learn and use.
